The Animal Rescue site is helping Home for Life sustain one of our community outreach programs, Sit*Stay*Heal. This program provides healing pet therapy and solace and joy to patients at Fairview University Hospital incluing their pediatric & adult patients receiving long term care in the oncology, critical care, cardiac, transplant and mental health units of the hospital. Sit*Stay* Heal was expanded in 2009 to provide pet therapy to soldiers receiving treatment and rehabilitation at the Veteran's Administration Hospital's Polytrauma Unit; in 2010 the program grew again as we started a collaboration with Aseracare, a hospice provider to patients throughout the Twin Cities. The Animal Rescue site is especially interested in the work we do with hospice patients. The terminally ill are some of the most socially isolated members of our society, and we are grateful that the Animal Rescue site appreciates the great benefits and comfort pet therapy brings these patients in their last months of life .
